A Word on Banner: 15 minute timeout

For security Reasons, if there is no activity for 15 minutes, your Banner session will timeout.

When multiple Banner tabs are open in a browser, the 15 minute session timeout is generally managed by the first tab, which can result in unpredictable session timeouts in the other tabs.

If you open multiple Banner 9 sessions in a single browser, they all share the same cache and cookies (local stored files from recently visited pages and the same authentication token).  This can cause unexpected or unwanted behavior like unexpected early timeouts and various data connection errors.  For instance, one Banner session (browser tab) can time out from inactivity after 15 minutes, and your other opened Banner Tabs may become invalid because they use the same authentication cookie (token) as the first tab - thus your most recently opened Banner Tab may timeout UNDER the 15 minute threshold and/or return various types of errors.

You can avoid those complications by either:

  1. Using Banner 9 in only one browser tab, then closing and re-opening that same Banner session/tab after any 15 inactivity timeout.  We understand that this might require some adjustments in procedure and work flow.

    OR

  2.  If you must have multiple Banner browser windows open simultaneously, try opening each new Banner tab in Incognito/private mode**
                    OR

try using separate browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Edge).  The sessions should behave as expected within each browser as far as getting your full 15 minute inactivity timeout.
