The computer assigned to you at SUNYOrange may be asking for the BitLocker recovery key because it detected a change in the system's configuration or hardware, which is a security measure to ensure the system hasn't been tampered with. Common triggers include BIOS/UEFI updates, hardware changes, Windows updates, or even plugging in a USB device. To unlock the computer, you will need to enter the Bitlocker recovery key specific to your device, which may be saved to your Microsoft account
To Find your Bitlocker Recovery Key for your device:

From another device, open a web browser and go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list

Sign in with your MySUNYOrange email address and Password as usual.

Click on your Device name (computer name), then Click the option to View BitLocker Keys
Your device name ends with your OCCC TAG Number - physical bar code sticker on your laptop
***NOTE: If you do not see your device listed here, STOP and please open a ticket for service.

- Click on Show recovery Key. Your Bitlocker Recovery Key will be displayed the screen. You can manually type this key into your laptop that is locked.
** This key is SECURE and custom to YOUR specific LAPTOP, and should never be shared or printed.
