Connecting to SUNY Orange Network with FortiClient VPN

Notes/Pre-requisites
- You must first have been granted remote access from the IT Department to use VPN. To get remote access, your supervisor will need to request it on your behalf using the VPN Access - FortiClient ticket form.
- FortiClient VPN is already installed on college issued laptops. If not, you can install it using our SUNY Orange Company Portal.
Connecting to VPN

Open FortiClient VPN (icon with a shield) from your desktop, taskbar icon, or Windows Program list. Accept the license agreement if you are prompted to do so.

Click the Connect button. |

A familiar SSO (Single Sign On) window will appear asking to Sign in with your SUNY Orange email address. Type your full @sunyorange.edu email address, then click the Next button.

Enter your account password. (this is the same password used to access your computer, email, and our my.sunyorange.edu portal), then click the Sign In button.

You will then be prompted to complete a security verification using your MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) on record.
Verify your identity by selecting your preferred method to continue. (this could be using an authenticator app, phone call, or sms text message..)

The FortClient VPN software will now connect to the SUNY Orange VPN. (You will see a “Disconnect” button once fully connected.)
You can now minimize the FortClient VPN Software connection and proceed to access SUNY Orange Protected Systems like Banner Admin PROD, ONbase, Cognos, etc….

Disconnecting from VPN

While connection is active, the FortiClient VPN software status is displayed in your system tray as a Blue Shield icon with a Gold Padlock.

Right-click on the shield icon in the system tray, the following menu will pop up
Choose Disconnect "SUNY Orange VPN"
